About Bruce Himelman

My photographic journey began nearly 40 years ago on my honeymoon, armed with my wife’s Pentax camera and absolutely no idea what I was doing. Her only instruction: "Just make sure the needle in the viewfinder points between 5.6 and 8."

From those first tentative frames, a lifelong passion was born. A few years later, following the birth of my son, I bought my first film camera—a Minolta 6006—and spent hours waiting for development, hoping for those few magical shots in every roll.

Evolving the Craft

My creative breakthrough came in 2008 during a workshop with acclaimed photographer Rick Sammon in Croton, NY. It was there that my understanding of light, composition, and subject truly crystallized. Embracing the digital era, I learned Lightroom and then Photoshop which
elevated my post-processing skills in order to bring my creative vision to life.

Over the years, I have continued to refine my skills through numerous photography workshops and conferences. My work has been recognized in several photographic competitions, including winning awards in New Jersey and having a piece accepted into a prestigious New York City exhibition.

My Gear & Focus Today

In 2013, I made the switch from Nikon to the OM System and haven't looked back. Today, I shoot exclusively with the OM System’s OM-1 mk2 that perfectly complements my fast-paced wildlife work
